A controversial opinion: I'm pro-life

I'm pro-life and I believe in the dignity of EVERY human life. All life matters. Now, before you burn me at the stake, allow me to explain my reasoning. It's quite simple. So sit down, judge me (if you want), and listen.

In my opinion, life begins at conception, which makes abortion equivalent to murder. Supporting abortion is supporting taking the life of another human. Yes, women AND MEN should have the right to their own body, but when you factor in the life of another human, the sole opinion of the female isn't the only opinion that matters.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro destroys the argument that a fetus isn't considered a human life during a Sep. 2017 Q&A event at the University of California Berkley.

"Why exactly do you think a first-trimester fetus has moral value?" said one student during the event.

Shapiro answered: "A first-trimester has moral value because whether you consider it a potential human life or a full-on human life, it has more value than just a cluster of cells. It left to its natural processes, it will grow into a baby. So the real question is, where do you draw the line? So, you're going to draw the line at the heartbeat--because it's very hard to draw the line at the heartbeat? There are people who are adults who are alive because of a pacemaker, they need some sort of outside force generating their heartbeat. Are you going to do it based on brain function? Okay, well, what about people who are in a coma? Should we just kill them?"

Let that sink in. Here's the full video if you want to watch it yourself:

Abortion isn't some doctor waving a magic wand. Abortion isn’t cute. It's not pretty. Abortion is actually quite gruesome, especially the psychological effects it has on the mother after the procedure. A 2011 study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry reported that there were significant changes in mental health in women who had an abortion. Based off of medical information from the study 164,000 out of 877,000 who had an abortion, women were 81 percent more likely to experience a variety of mental health struggles. These struggles include:

  • 34 percent more likely to develop an anxiety disorder
  • 37 percent more likely to experience depression
  • 110 percent more likely to abuse alcohol
  • 155 percent more likely to commit suicide

In no such place does civilized society allows one human to harm or take the life another human. Why should abortion be any different? Abortion should not be used as another form of contraception in the case of an accidental pregnancy. One must be held accountable for their actions.

Many women who are unable to procreate could have a chance at motherhood if another female is unwilling to raise her child. Or, if a female is unable to financially support her child, adoption is a viable option. Putting one's child up for adoption is far better idea, in comparison to ending the life of an innocent child.

Yes, and there is the rare instance of rape and incest. U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported in 2015 that only 1.5 percent of all abortions were due to rape/incest. Why should all abortion cases be held to that same standard if such a minuscule number was because of rape/incest?

It should not.

Just because only 1.5 percent of abortions were due to rape/incest should not make abortion legal, nor should American tax dollars fund it; let's not forget the government funding Planned Parenthood, but don't get me started on that. Abortion punishes the unborn child who committed no crime. Why should the unborn child face such extreme form of punishment, when it should be the perpetrator who should?

And that's the tea, sis. xoxo.
